“Danny Neyman works at the crossroads of performance, conceptual dance and spoken-word, creating textual and audial landscapes that uncover the human experience and the notion of humaneness, in their deepest sense, through the act of performative reflection on basic aspects of everyday life. Helsinki (2016), Neyman’s first work, is a spoken inter-text combining fragments from personal journals, whatsapp and sex-chat correspondences, youtube segments, psychotherapy sessions and book quotes, that formulate into a ‘grand-narrative’ of intimacy of the contemporary Every-man. In Walk in the Park (2019), Neyman expands the practice of reading and speaking into voicing and singing, thus uncovering the manner in which the sounds, tones and artifacts of the people surrounding him - and not only their words - are embodied in his physical being and constitute his cultural, ethnic and gender identity.

In many ways, Danny Neyman translates literature into performance and reinvents for the stage traditional literary genres - he realises a unique form of performative storytelling that redefines the travel novel into a postmodern stream of consciousness that intertwines autobiographical and literary, historical and contemporary, mundane and philosophical, personal and fictional. Within this practice, Neyman creates - and becomes - the figure of an Omniscient Author, whose body and voice ground a fragmented society and a flickering and floating culture in constant flux, in the most concrete sensation of present.”

BIO

Danny Neyman (b.1986) is an Israeli performance artist, dancer, and writer, based in Antwerp Belgium and Paris France. He has a bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Literature from Tel Aviv University (graduated summa cum laude) and a post-master's degree in Performance Studies from a.pass Brussels. He was a founding memeber of the Tel Aviv based queer performance collective Cinema Paradildo and has worked as a dancer and performer with Arkadi Zaides, Public Movement, Yasmeen Godder (with whom he also collaborated on a dance performance for Bat-Sheva Dance Company), and Mette Ingvartsen. He is the translator into English of celebrated Israeli poet Noam Partom, and has translated into Hebrew works from William Blake and John Ruskin. Since 2015 he has been creating his own performance work, which is based in language and sound and explores relations between literature, writing and the performative space. His works include Helsinki (2016) and Walk in the Park (2019).
